Welding sheet metal box Process Options

 

A. TIG Welding (Best for Thin Metal)

- Pros: Precise, clean, minimal spatter.

- Settings: Low amperage (30-80A for thin gauge), argon gas, small filler rod (0.8-1.6mm).

- Technique:

1. Tack corners first.

2. Use pulsed TIG to reduce heat input.

3. Weld in short sections (1-2 inches), alternating sides to manage distortion.

B. MIG Welding (Faster, but Riskier on Thin Metal)

- Pros: Faster deposition; good for thicker sheets (18+ gauge).

- Settings: Short-circuit transfer, 0.6mm wire, 75/25 Ar/CO₂ gas, lower voltage (16-18V).

- Technique:

1. Stitch welding (1" weld, skip 2") to prevent warping.

2. Use copper backing to dissipate heat.

C. Spot Welding (For Overlapping Joints)

- Ideal for overlapping seams without full penetration.
